The Daredevil finale was cathartic af.

The season 2 finale of Daredevil: Born Again was cathartic as fuck. This is exactly why I love shows that actually have something to say, rather than the forgettable, empty-calorie media that typically populates late-stage MCU.

While the real world remains stuck in a cycle of political frustration, Daredevil—under the Disney umbrella, of all places—dared to punch authoritarianism right in the face. It offered a vision of what happens when We The People finally say enough is enough.

The Fisk Problem and Fictional Justice

I do have my issues with the finale. Wilson Fisk murdered an untold number of people during the climax, crushing heads and breaking spines. Seeing him simply kicked out of the country felt like a miscarriage of fictional justice.

However, Vincent D’Onofrio is irreplaceable, and I guess we just have to keep the gravy train running for season 3. In the world of entertainment, justice for the murdered is sometimes the price we pay for a compelling antagonist. It’s just a television show—until you realize how much it mirrors our actual reality.

Meeting the Moment

The catharsis works because Daredevil met the moment. While it isn't satire like The Boys, it does hold up a mirror to the real world. Fisk’s fascist takeover of New York City is uncomfortably similar to modern political climates.

When the real world feels bleak or hopeless, we need art that meets that energy. We need stories that admit things can get worse, but also show us what it looks like to stand up against it, to resist, and to fight back. Daredevil feels different because it isn't just ejaculating digital effects onto a screen; it's actually taking a stand and saying something substantive.

The Value of Having a Stance

You don't have to agree with what a show says to appreciate that it has a perspective. For instance, I couldn't stomach the "big oil" propaganda in Landman and turned it off after a single episode, never to be thought of again … but I still respect art that stands for something over art that says nothing at all. Saying nothing is not just forgettable; it’s fucking boring.

And that Daredevil finale? Well, it was anything but boring. Here’s to season 3—hopefully Fisk sees some justice for his murders next time.
